Obama Courting Gays

The Senator from Illinois intends to repeal laws that protect marriage and strike down Don’t Ask Don’t Tell; the policy that keeps homosexuals from openly serving in the military. In a letter on his website to the gay community Obama states, “I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws. I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment.” Bob Stith is the Gender Issues Strategist for the Southern Baptist Convention.

“That’s strictly a political issue that’s pushed for political reasons and it disregards the long-term welfare of children so I think that’s especially tragic.”

Obama’s promise to repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act is an assault on one of the nation’s greatest institutions, according to Austin Nimocks with the Alliance Defense Fund.

“Any effort to repeal DOMA would be a direct assault on the states and their right to define marriage as they see fit. Any repeal of DOMA means that every American taxpayer would be forced to fund from their own pocket the homosexual agenda.”

And Elaine Donnelly of the Center for Military Readiness is convinced repealing the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy would affect issues beyond the military.

“Right away you would have disputes about housing, about medical issues; the whole array of gay rights demands would be brought up in the initial stage in the armed forces. But, very quickly be transferred to the rest of the civilian world.”

She says Obama is definitely the ‘candidate of change.’
